Staff will present an ordinance similar to the one discussed at the October 29, 2019 study session but with minor tweaks to allow publishers greatly flexibility in placing newsracks. Changes include increasing the dimensions to a maximum height of 54” and a maximum width and depth of 26”. Placement standards have also been adjusted including the ability for the Public Works Director or its designee to permit locations that do not conform to the standards if there is no risk to public safety. These changes are in line with City Council direction at the study session.
Staff will recommend that the ordinance’s effective date be delayed to January 1, 2021. Publishers or any other interested parties are invited to attend this virtual meeting to comment or learn more.
