Mystery Readers Group: Mysteries in Bookstores and Libraries

Wednesday, May 19, 2021

Recent mysteries featuring bookish amateur sleuths include tales of a lighthouse library, a haunted library and a 75-year-old librarian’s bookmobile adventure.

This month, we’ll discuss book-slinger sleuths!

There are a lot of recent mysteries set in bookshops and libraries where crimes are solved by amateurs.

Examples
  • Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend, by Katarina Bivald: a Swedish woman meets her pen pal in Iowa
  • The Bookman’s Tale, by Charles Lovett: an American man goes to England and buys a bookshop
  • The Bookshop of Yesterdays, by Amy Meyerson: a woman returns to Los Angeles after inheriting a bookshop
  • Better of Read, by Nora Page: a 75 year old librarian starts a bookmobile in Georgia
  • Death Overdue, by Allison Brook: about a haunted library in Connecticut
  • By Book or By Crook, by Eva Gates: a Boston librarian relocates to a lighthouse library in the North Carolina Outer Banks.

The Mystery Readers Group meets online on the third Wednesday of each month, with a different topic or guest author at each meeting.

First-timers are always welcome!
