Pedestrians and bicyclists wanting to cross the Willow-101 Bridge can take advantage of a free shuttle service during the interchange construction. Caltrans is providing this free shuttle service 24 hours per day to help people get safety across the bridge. Call 415-263-4000 to reach Bauer shuttle dispatchers and wait at the stop at
Durham near Willow or at Newbridge near Carlton. Sidewalks are closed on both sides of Willow Road. Pedestrians are prohibited from crossing the bridge and bicycles are encouraged to avoid the crossing for the duration of the bridge construction. Alternatively, pedestrians and bicyclists can also use the pedestrian bridge at Ringwood.
The interchange project will replace the existing interchange with a new, wider bridge; add sidewalks, bike lanes and protected bike paths on both sides; and add two signalized intersections. The current "full cloverleaf" style interchange will be replaced with a "partial cloverleaf" which will eliminate the short merge weaves both on Willow Road and on the freeway and will create a more efficient way for all modes of traffic, including bikes and pedestrians, to get across the freeway at Willow Road.
