In July 2014 the Peninsula Library System voted to stop charging library users a 75¢ fee to reserve or place library materials “on hold”. While it doesn’t seem like a large amount, turns out it was a barrier to some of our users. From the period April 2014 to October 2014 the number of Holds waiting to be picked up at the Menlo Park Library increased by 51%. Rather than pulling, tagging and shelving 2200 items per month, staff are now pulling, tagging, and shelving over 4400 items monthly. The Hold Shelves in the front of the library are now full to overflowing on a regular basis. Menlo Park borrowers are very pleased with this new service enhancement! Photo shows 766 items on the Hold Shelves awaiting pick-up by Menlo Park borrowers.
