The opening of the playing fields in Burgess Park is moving forward as scheduled, today, Friday July 28, 2017, at 8 a.m. The fields have had limited public access since June 5, 2017, in order to perform the regularly scheduled maintenance work necessary to keep the fields in their best shape. Sports fields throughout the City are on a rotating 8-week closure schedule for maintenance. The closure allows for restoration and repair that it needs from heavy use associated with ongoing sports activities throughout the remainder of the year. The upkeep efforts performed by the Public Works, Parks Maintenance team consist primarily of aerating, reseeding, topdressing, mulching and fertilizing of the turf grass. This work produces deep rooting grass with maximum density to resist wear and the encroachment of weeds and undesirable grasses.

These fields are used for a variety of community activities and organized sports groups, which include soccer, football, lacrosse, softball and more. The City takes pride in the keeping the fields beautiful to look at and a joy to use. For more information on Burgess Park and other City Parks, please visit the facilities' webpage.
