Trash found on streets can be a problem in some areas of the City. During rain events, trash found on surface streets flows into the City’s storm drains causing potential blockages in the pipes. Consisting mostly of plastic, the trash flows in the storm pipes eventually draining into San Francisco Bay. As part of the State’s trash reduction requirements and stormwater program, the City completed the installation of 20 trash capture devices on Pierce Road and Newbridge Street. These systems capture the trash and prevent it from getting into the pipes and from flowing into the Bay. Maintenance crews are then responsible for removing the trash from the devices during routine inspections. Together, we can prevent trash from getting into the drains and from flowing into the Bay.
