In preparation for this season's winter storms, the City will provide free sandbags and sand to Menlo Park residents at the following locations:
In addition, the Joint Sandbag Program between the City of Menlo Park and the
Menlo Park Fire Protection District is moving along well. Working in conjunction with the City's Public Works Department, the Fire District has prepared an estimated 600 sandbags (pre-loaded) ready for emergency use. The City provided the sand, shovels and bags in conjunction with the Fire District's purchase of two plastic freestanding Sandbaggers. This will greatly improve the speed and efficiency of the operation. A work crew from the San Mateo County Sheriff's office assisted with filling the sandbags on November 9, 2014.
Currently, there are several pallets with an average of 30 to 40 bags each ready for deployment. With the forklift at
Fire Station 77, a pallet can be quickly loaded onto a pickup or truck to be utilized in emergency situations. The pallets and bags will be covered and protected from the elements until needed. An official sign will be placed in front of the sand pile acknowledging the sand is for emergency use only.
