Annual Management Retreat Focuses on Change Management

Posted on November 9, 2014 at 2:03 am by Clay Curtin

On Nov. 5th and 6th, city department heads and division managers attending the 3rd annual Menlo Park management team retreat were challenged to consider new ways of managing change.

The retreat focused on the book, Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard, by Chip Heath and Dan Heath. This continues the work from last year’s retreat, also based on a book by the Heath brothers called Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die, and supports the City Council’s goals for improved public relations and communications.

“With nearly 50% of the management team members having changed over a two year period, it’s important that we continue to build organizational momentum,” said City Manager Alex McIntyre. “This investment of time and energy toward developing the organization allows us to preserve and improve the level of service city staff provides to our residents.”
