On Nov. 28, the
Menlo Park Municipal Water District’s wholesaler,
San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, began blending supplies from the Sunol Valley Water Treatment Plant to perform annual routine maintenance on the Hetch Hetchy system. The musty or earthy taste/odor appears to be the result of the water blend change, and this change stirred up sediments causing taste and odor issues. SFPUC is proactively testing parts of their system to locate the source of these issues and is working to resolve them as soon as possible. Menlo Park Municipal Water District residents and businesses may continue to experience change in these aesthetic properties as the blended water travels through the system. It is possible that this change in taste and odor may linger for a few days. The water is safe to drink and continues to meet all drinking water standards. For detailed information, please visit
SFPUC website.
