After eight weeks consisting of nine sessions and a ride-a-long, 15 community members graduated from the Menlo Park community police academy Nov. 9, 2016. The participants are commended for their commitment and active involvement in learning about the various aspects of the police department. The curriculum consisted of lecture and practical, hands-on training in areas of communications, records, code enforcement, recruitment, community engagement, laws of arrest, crime scene investigations, traffic enforcement, narcotics enforcement, firearms, defensive tactics, critical incident response and a host of other law enforcement functions and responsibilities.

The next community police academy will be a youth academy held in 2017. The adult community police academy is held every other year; the next is projected for 2018.
