An Italian stone pine in Fremont Park was recently removed because it was in imminent danger of falling. Now, the stump and two large pieces are going to be reimagined by Chainsaw Artist John Mahoney. Join us for the
chainsaw carving on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at 9:00 am, to watch as Chainsaw Artist John Mahoney wields powerful chainsaws to delicately craft his latest artwork.
He will be creating several pieces (including a chair, a bench, and a climbing structure) that will endure as permanent features in Fremont Park. Mr. Mahoney has performed numerous similar projects for municipalities throughout the state and his work can be seen at Knott’s Berry Farm.
Other large portions of the Italian stone pine tree have been retained and will also be repurposed. A local downtown Menlo Park business, Menlo Hardwoods, is in the process of milling the wood to build multiple tables and benches. Funds generated from the sale of these local products will assist in the cost of planting a larger replacement tree.
