On Aug. 11, 2016, the
Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition and Microsoft hosted the sixth annual
Bike Summit which is the region's largest gathering of active transportation leaders and organizers from government, law enforcement, nonprofits and the public aimed at improving bicycle infrastructure and policies throughout the bay area. Menlo Park's transportation manager, Nikki Nagaya, spoke at the event with CMG Architects to highlight the new bike facilities on Chilco Street and the public/private partnership with Facebook to get those constructed. This facility is the first protected bike lane in Menlo Park and provides a significant connection between the Belle Haven neighborhood and the recreational facilities along the bay, including
Bedwell Bayfront Park. Phase 1 was completed in May 2016 and additional phases are currently in design and construction. There were over 200 attendees at this year’s summit, and more than half arrived by bike!
