If it seems that there is more construction activity in the city than you can remember from the past, it is because the city has seen significant growth in building activity over the past couple of years.
In the 2014-15 fiscal year, the city saw an approximately 5 percent increase in the number of building permits issued (totaling 1,387 permits) and a corresponding increase in the number of inspections that were conducted. In the 2015-16 fiscal year, which ended June 30, the number of issued building permits increased by 20 percent to 1,670 permits.
The number of inspections also increased by approximately 19 percent from 10,175 in the 2014-15 fiscal year to 12,103 inspections in the 2015-16 fiscal year. Staff is expecting this growth trend to continue into the 2016-17 fiscal year and will continue to track and report on the activity.
