For the second year, the
Belle Haven Branch Library will host up to 20 campers for Summer Learning Camp. This year, the camp is designed for children who are moving from kindergarten to the first grade. The goal is to give them the extra help they need so they have the best opportunity to excel in school. The camp lasts five weeks long with four half-days per week and a full day every Friday. The full days involve educational field trips and other activities outside the usual program. Last year's camp was a big hit with children and parents and throughout the year Belle Haven staff were asked if the camp would be returning again.
Summer Learning Camp is an initiative of the public libraries in San Mateo County with five camp locations countywide. Measure A funds, administered through San Mateo County Library, support the program and reimburse all local costs. In addition to the fun learning opportunities for children, the program also employs teens who work as program interns and assist at each of the camps and at the libraries for other summer learning activities. Our local camp is being directed by Heriberto Madrigal from the library staff.
