During the spring and summer seasons, the City performs renovations at various sports fields. Currently, the Nealon Park field used for softball, soccer and off-leash dog activities is closed. This six-week annual closure began March 7 and ends April 18. During this time, the grass is aerated, fertilized, seeded and top-dressed with redwood mulch to promote new seed growth. In addition, staff adjusts irrigation systems and levels depressions. This resting time allows new grass seed to germinate and mature to the point that it play-ready. While the Nealon field is closed, an off-leash dog facility is available at the Willow Oaks dog park.
