During the week between Christmas and New Year, when most city offices closed, six staff from the
Public Works Department worked in the
Library, which remained open. The staff provided much needed assistance in getting some “back of the house” work done in the library. They assisted in shifting large numbers of bound magazines to make room for the newly acquired collection of an archival run of Sunset Magazine that the library received when Sunset Magazine closed their Menlo Park headquarters last year. This also involved moving the entire current magazine collection, 230 titles, to make room for the 2016 issues, repaired cases in the music CD collection thus prolonging the life of the discs, and audited the catalog for duplicate CDs. These Public Works staff had the opportunity to experience the library’s operations and strengthened the resource network among the staff from different departments.
