On Dec. 1, 2015, approximately 100 Belle Haven residents participated in a solar workshop held at the Menlo Park Senior Center. The workshop was the result of the City, the Grid Alternatives and Menlo Spark nonprofit organizations and Facebook working together. During the workshop, Grid Alternatives presented their solar installation program for limited-income homeowners in Spanish and English. Menlo Spark explained how they worked with Facebook to make a significant donation, allowing the first 10 qualifying Belle Haven home owners to receive free solar systems.
There are many benefits for homeowners to install solar systems. Not only is solar energy cost-effective; solar energy is renewable. The sun is a consistent power source meaning it's always going to be there every day. Solar energy is environmentally friendly and solar technology is constantly improving. Solar installations are increasing by 50% every year, most of which are small homemade systems.
