The planning division staff attended the 2015 American Planning Association (APA) California Chapter conference in Oakland Oct. 3-6. Since the conference was held locally, more planning staff members were able to participate this year. Associate Planner Jean Lin was part of the conference organizing committee and Assistant Community Development Director Justin Murphy presented as part of a panel on the topic of public benefit. All planners attended engaging sessions on topics including management and leadership, co-housing and micro-units, what decision-makers want out of staff reports and neighborhood gentrification/displacement.

APA California is a network of practicing planners, citizens and elected officials committed to urban, suburban, regional and rural planning in California. The association provides planning staff the tools, services, education and support that fosters better planning, builds public and political support for sound planning and encourages advancement in the art and science of planning.
