Burgess Pool to feature USA Underwater Hockey

Posted on August 30, 2015 at 12:42 am by Clay Curtin

Menlo Swim and Sport is working with Club Puck to offer USA Underwater Hockey at Burgess Pool. Underwater hockey is the fast-moving sport played on swimming pool bottoms across the United States. Two teams of six face off in 6 to 8 feet of water, swimming and diving to try to shoot a weighted puck into the goal. Players use small (approximately 1 foot) wooden or plastic sticks to push and shoot. Underwater hockey play and strategy is similar to soccer or ice hockey. On average, each player is underwater less than five seconds at a time, and seldom more than 15 seconds. Success -- putting the puck in the goal trough at the bottom of each end wall -- ultimately depends on teamwork, not how long you can hold your breath. Underwater hockey is another unique and innovative program that is being offered at Burgess Pool. The recent move by Menlo Swim to attract Club Puck will make Menlo Park a destination for this popular sport.
