On Monday, Aug. 17, the
Planning Commission approved a request for a use permit and architectural control review to partially convert, expand, and architecturally update the existing OfficeMax sales and distribution building into a research and development and warehousing building, of which 80 percent is expected to be leased to Pacific Biosciences. The approval will allow Pacific Biosciences to relocate from the Menlo Science and Technology Park (located along Willow Road in Menlo Park) and consolidate its operations in a single building over the next few years. The project is the first to utilize the City’s recently amended Transportation Impact Analysis guidelines by incorporating a traffic demand management program, which is intended to reduce potential vehicle trips from the project site. The project also includes a below market rate agreement for the payment of an in lieu fee or the delivery of equivalent off-site units.
