From poetry to bike riding the library had something to offer from the cerebral to the athletic on the first Saturday of this month. In an ode to the spoken word, five local poets read selections from their works and entertained a riveted audience with tales of their work and what inspires them to create poetry. This program was part of the monthly “Saturday Series” organized by the library and presented in the City Council Chambers.
A special “Ride with the Library” event brought over 35 bike enthusiasts on a ride through beautiful Menlo Park neighborhoods from the Main Library at the Burgess campus to the Belle Haven Branch Library at the Belle Haven School and back. Refreshments and lunch were highlights as was the comradery of the bike ride. Library intern Shih Fa Kao organized the event involving both the Bicycle Commission and the police department, making for a very successful and enjoyable morning event.
