Passport to Parks is a collaborative that includes parks and recreation departments, the
Hospital Consortium of San Mateo County, county agencies and community members. Menlo Park has joined as part of this collaboration to bring Passport to Parks to its residents and visitors to encourage them to leave their homes and be physically active. Passport to Parks’ goal is to encourage residents to walk or bike while exploring their local parks. The benefits include lower risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure, improving mental health and feeling more engaged with nature and the community. Passport to Parks is a free yearlong campaign where participants travel within a city to find three parks to complete a "passport.” They find signs at each park that tell them a clue or something interesting about the next park. Directions will also be included. The key is to travel by foot, bike, skateboard, skates, or other means of being active! Once participants reach their final destination, they will have the opportunity to submit their "passport" electronically or by mail and let the organizers know their thoughts about their travels for the day. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for a prize. People can participate as many times as they want from April 2015 - April 2016.
