U.S. Highway 101 Express Lanes agency to host meeting on equity study

Posted on March 15, 2021 at 9:40 pm by Clay Curtin

The San Mateo County Express Lanes Joint Powers Authority (SMCEL-JPA) will host a virtual public meeting to discuss alternatives to improve mobility options for underserved communities in San Mateo County at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, March 18. This meeting will allow local residents and community members the opportunity to learn more about the equity study and provide input on what kind of pilot equity program alternatives they would like to see related to the San Mateo 101 Express Lanes project.

The goal of the equity study is to learn more about potential mobility improvements the San Mateo 101 Express Lanes project can help address in historically underserved communities in San Mateo County and launch a pilot equity program to address some of those needs.

The equity study project team will take a multi-pronged approach to understanding the underlying issues facing underserved communities as a basis for recommending an equity program. Building off the community feedback and technical work in the first phase of the project from last fall, there are now four different alternatives under consideration. Ultimately, the SMCEL- JPA Board will adopt a pilot equity program that can evolve over time based on available resources.
