In 2014, the Peninsula-area libraries were awarded Measure A funds to redesign and improve traditional summer reading programs for children. The goal of the annual summer learning program is to give every child in San Mateo County multiple opportunities to read, learn, and experience in order to avoid summer learning loss. Staffs of local libraries are currently planning this year’s summer programs with the goal of 30% of all San Mateo County children participating and 60% of those children completing the program. It is a lofty goal for the libraries, but significant raffle prizes are offered to encourage participation and completion by young children and their families, elementary school-age children and teens. More updates on the program will be announced as summer nears.
