California faces a continued and growing threat of extreme weather and wildfires. As an additional precautionary measure Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) has enhanced and expanded their
Community Wildfire Safety Program in order to further reduce wildfire risks and keep communities safe.
PG&E has expanded their efforts and are taking action by:
- Conducting accelerated safety inspections
- Upgrading their electric system by installing stronger poles and covered power lines
- Focusing on vegetation management that poses a higher potential for wildfire risk
- Conducting Public Safety Power Shutoffs when gusty winds and dry conditions are forecast
- Adding more weather stations to provide improved awareness of fire danger conditions
- Installing cameras to enhance real-time monitoring across high fire-risk areas
- Monitoring conditions through their 24/7 Wildfire Safety Operations Center
Residents and businesses can take steps now to for
wildfire prevention and preparedness and to ensure their ready for an outage or an evacuation. It’s important to do the following:
- Update your contact information
- Create an emergency kit
- Prepare for outages
- Plant the right tree in the right place
- Attend a wildfire safety webinar
PG&E is hosting a
series of online webinars for anyone who is interested in learning more about their Community Wildfire Safety Program. These virtual gatherings will allow community members to learn more about wildfire safety and emergency preparedness, meet with PG&E representatives, ask questions and share feedback.
The online webinar for San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties is being held June 3 from 5:30–6:30 p.m.
