Free compost giveaway temporarily suspended due to construction

Posted on March 2, 2020 at 5:50 pm by Clay Curtin

Due to the impacts from ongoing and planned construction projects at Bedwell Bayfront Park, which will interfere with the safe distribution of compost, the City is suspending deliveries for its free compost program for 2020 until an alternative location is identified.

In the meantime, residents may pick up free compost year-round from the Shoreway Environmental Center located at 333 Shoreway Road in San Carlos. Please bring proof of residency and no appointment is needed.

As part of the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration project, the Ravenswood Ponds Levee Maintenance and Habitat Enhancement project is currently underway and will enhance the habitat environment at the Refuge’s Ravenswood Ponds, on lands south of Bedwell Bayfront Park.

The Bayfront Canal and Atherton Channel Flood Management and Restoration project is anticipated to begin construction late this year or early 2021 and involves installing underground pipes connecting Bayfront Canal to the Ravenswood Ponds to reduce potential flooding impacts.

You can sign up to get regular email updates on the construction work, and can learn more information from the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge website.
