Crosswalks, speed bumps benefit users at Onetta Harris Community Center and Beechwood School

Posted on October 28, 2019 at 3:46 pm by Clay Curtin

Acting on community feedback from the Belle Haven Traffic Calming Plan study, the City Council approved several transportation circulation improvements for the Onetta Harris Community Center/Beechwood School parking lot.

These improvements are intended to address circulation and speeding concerns raised by Belle Haven residents and the Beechwood School.

Earlier this fall, crew installed a new sidewalk on the south side of the parking lot, which runs parallel and adjacent to the Beechwood School. The sidewalk provides a pedestrian connection from the school to the community center and the pool.

Additional improvements recently installed include:
  • New pedestrian crosswalk striping to connect Beechwood School to the community center and Kelly Park
  • New speed bumps to discourage vehicular speeding
  • Additional striping and signage to reinforce one-way vehicular circulation
  • New signage to discourage overnight parking

For any additional information or provide feedback, please contact the City’s Transportation Division.
