This years’ theme of National Public Works week was "The Power of Public Works", emphasizing the impact of public works on modern civilization - from building and maintaining roads to providing clean drinking water and more.  

To celebrate the occasion, Public Works maintenance staff spent the morning at the Belle Haven Child Development Center. About 90 preschoolers were able to meet the maintenance staff who care for their school and neighborhood.  The preschoolers were excited see the tools and equipment, especially the front end loader and compactor. 

The kids also had a chance to get their hands dirty while working with staff to plant a tree, which was named
Belle by the preschoolers to represent their connection to public works and the community.
