On November 6, 2018, the City of Menlo Park will hold a General Municipal Election to fill several City Council seats. At this time, there are a lot of unknowns based on the city's transition to by-district elections. For more information on that process, please visit the District Elections project page.
Anyone who is 18 years of age and who is a resident and registered voter in the City of Menlo Park may run for a seat on the City Council. Once district boundaries are set, eligible candidates will only be able to run from the district in which they live.
The nomination period opens in July and closes in early August. If nomination papers for an incumbent elective officer are not filed by the filing deadline, the nomination period is extended for five days.
Nomination and other related papers to run for City Council are available in the City Clerk’s Office. The City Clerk’s Office is open from Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on alternate Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
