Emergency Operations Plan

Emergency Notification System

The City of Menlo Park has launched a new Emergency Notification system which can be used by City staff to send personalized voice and data messages to residents and businesses within Menlo Park. The system has the capability of sending thousands of messages in minutes using a single announcement.

CITY OF MENLO PARK EMERGENCY OPERATIONS PLAN: The City of Menlo Park adopted the updated Emergency Operations Plan in January 2011.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS MANUAL: The Menlo Park Police Department has put together this manual to help residents and businesses get through an emergency.

BE PREPARED: Homeland Security suggestions for putting together a kit and a plan to get you and your family through the first three days of a disastrous event.

CREEK LEVEL MONITORING SYSTEM: City of Palo Alto's real time monitors -- for potential flooding hazards. Check here during times of heavy rain and possible flooding conditions.

WINTERIZING: When Summer is over, it's time to get ready for several months of rain, wind, and cold.  There are numerous sensible steps a homeowner can take to help winterize or prepare for the change in the weather.

HAZARD MAPS: Interactive maps showing the risk level of various disasters including earthquakes, flooding, landslides, wild fires and tsunamis are available from the Association of Bay Area Government. This website includes maps and numerous resources to help mitigate for these hazards.

PREPARING FOR THE WINTER: Residents can take the following actions...

  • Make sure rain gutters, downspouts, and splash blocks are all in good working order
  • Replace furnace filters to keep your heating system efficient
  • Add insulation stripping to windows or doors as needed
  • Sweep up the curb and gutter area in front of your home
  • Prepare or refresh a home based emergency kit (drinking water, first aid kit, no cook canned goods, hand can opener, a radio, flashlight, and extra batteries)
  • Make sure your autos have proper anti-freeze levels
  • When Driving leave more distance for safe breaking and make extra effort to see school children, pedestrians, and autos

CITY PREPARATIONS: City of Menlo Park Officials are also taking the following measures...

  • Checking Construction sites to ensure best practices are being used to prevent soil erosion into the storm drain system and creek
  • Checking the San Francisquito Creek to identify and remove debris
  • Checking and clearing street storm drain areas
  • Expedite clearing of leafs from major street gutter areas
  • Check and replenish needed emergency supplies and equipment
