Project Description:

The Slurry Seal Project will place a restorative surface coat over selected streets throughout the City over a period of several months beginning in September of 2010. Slurry seal is a type of micro-surfacing that significantly improves the functionality of a pavement without the disruptive work of tearing it out and replacing it. The large cracks are sealed and spot repairs are performed on sections that have serious damage, and then an emulsion of polymer-modified asphalt and fine aggregate is spread over the surface. Periodic re-coating with slurry seal has proven to be an effective way to extend the working life of asphalt pavements, and it produces a minimum of inconvenience to the neighborhood. Within a few hours the street is re-opened to traffic. After the slurry has cured the striping and crosswalks will be replaced as they were before.
