About Project Read
Project Read–Menlo Park is the adult literacy program of the Menlo Park Public Library. We offer free literacy education to adults. Our mission is to enable adults and families to improve their basic literacy skills so they can achieve their goals and function more effectively at home, in the community, at work, and as lifelong students. Fostering volunteerism and community service are also integral parts of our program. Our students are from the Mid-Peninsula area and are of diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. We place volunteer tutors with individual adult students. Project Read also teaches small English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, and provides computer literacy instruction.

How Does Project Read Work?
We provide free training to volunteer tutors who help our adults improve their reading and writing skills. During the 11-hour training session, volunteer tutors learn methods of teaching and assisting adult learners in achieving their literacy goals.  Tutors are matched with adults, either native English speakers or English as a Second Language (ESL) students.

We receive support from individuals, service organizations, businesses, and foundations.
The only way Project Read can continue to help those in need is with volunteers and generous donations made by people like you.
