Monetary Contributions

If you would like to make a tax-deductible monetary donation, lifetime gift or bequest, please visit the Menlo Park Library Foundation website.

 

Item Donations

Friends of the Menlo Park Library is happy to receive item donations to use for the Library's benefit or distribute as appropriate.

What Items We Accept


We do accept the following provided the specific item is in re-sale condition (see Re-Sale Condition Required):

  • Hardback, Paperback, and spiral-bound books
  • DVDs
  • Music CDs
  • Maps
  • Puzzles and games
  • Eyeglasses 

Re-Sale Condition Required


We can't accept: 

  • Books with missing pages, broken spines or significant highlighting
  • Items that are soiled, stained, water-damaged, bad-smelling, or falling apart
  • CDs, DVDs and other items  that don't function properly
  • Puzzles and games that have any pieces missing
  • Items otherwise not in re-sale condition

What We Do Not Accept


We do not accept (regardless of condition):

  • Outdated computer, business and travel books (older than 5 years)
  • Books discarded from other libraries
  • Encyclopedias
  • Reader's Digest Condensed Books
  • Magazines and newspapers
  • Vinyl records (LPs, 45s, 78s)
  • VHS and cassette tapes
  • Toys
  • Computers and other electronics

Recycling Information


For information about recycling items that we do not accept and you are unable to donate elsewhere, you may find the following websites useful:

How To Donate

  • When: 9 a.m. - Noon, every day except Sundays and Tuesdays when the library is not open in the morning
  • Where: Staff entrance on Alma Street at the corner of Ravenswood Avenue
  • How: Place donations on the book cart and take a gold-colored receipt
  • For pickup, multiple boxes, or donations at other times, contact the Friends of the Library at 650-330-2521
  • Library staff are not allowed to help you unload your vehicle

What Happens to the Donations


Books and other donated items may be:

  • Added to the Library collection
  • Sold  by The Friends of the Menlo Park Library

Please visit the Friends of the Menlo Park Library website for information about the Friends' Bookstore (open daily in the Library lobby), quarterly booksales (held at the Library) and year-round online sales, as well as the free carts put out weekly at the Library. The proceeds raised by these sales are used to support the Library's resources, facilities, programs and events.

Old eyeglasses are given to the Lions Club.


Donations of Volunteer Time

The Library offers many volunteer opportunities.
